Wheel Diameter min and max

I posted how I bought a track last weekend. I hop to get to assembling the track this weekend. I've not spent any money for tools and material to build a new car yet, but have been thinking a lot about the build.

The up side for me right now is that I can build and run without any rules. I'll probably get into the proxy races in the future. One thing I was thinking about is wheel size. It seems there is often talk about a minimum diameter, but what about a max?

I was thinking with about using a heatsink jig to soften the wheels and possibly streach the diamter or possibly even try to squish a wheel to gain center bulge. I could then finish the wheel as you would any other. Is there any reason a taller wheel is a disadvantage? Are there often rules about max diamter?

My appologies if this is an ignorant question. I haven't been hands on with a build in several years.

i do not know about streching one, but building one from scratch it would be heavier than a smaller one, that makes it slower. IMO i believe a larger wheel would be slower out of the gate but might hold the speed better on the flat. but i think it would be harder to tune as any adjustments would be proportionately exaggerated. but then again i could be wrong. anybody else??

I figured streaching a wheel may be a bit more in keeping with some rules. If I sreached it- basically the sidewall would get streached (thinner and taller) then I have a good chance of having the wheel weigh the same as most of the competition.

Good point about the slower start. I built a raised nose car years ago. It would jump out of the gate, but down at the big end it would usually slow down. I figured a slight loss on the hole shot is worth it for the faster speed (can I say mph?) in the long straight. Excuse the drag race lingo.

Ya know, I thought about that a few times myself...In that what would happen if you ran larger or smaller wheels? My thought was to possibly try to experiment with bigger wheels on the back and smaller on the front and then maybe reverse that idea just to see what happens. I think DNA is correct in saying that it could be faster on the flat after it built up some momentum. Question is, would there be enough length of track for that to happen? I think if someone wanted to try it, I would try to find out who makes the razor style wheels and see if they could make a larger one or two. Either way it would not be all that hard to make one as long as you had the resins and a lathe??? There is another member on here that made his own wheels, the car looked like the SR-71 Black Bird.

There are a few cars in the unlimited case that have different size wheels. Goat Boy who is supplying DD4H with the unlimited wheels runs a little different diameter from front to back.
