Wheel flex

You have to remember, a "tad" of a shoulder punch from Bulldog would drop most of us, He still has those MMA moves.

I find that a lot of you guys really get hung up on that number on the tuning board. If a car has 6 inches of steer, this should not induce a heart attack. The only number that matters is the one on the timer. Quicktime told me that he once had a car that was running something like 12 inches over 4 feet....and he won a National Championship with it. (And yes, this is the exception, not the norm).
No car is the same, they all want something a little different. If a car is very aggressively weighted, it will most likely require more steer. Keep in mind, the front will be lighter so its less weight plowing the rail which will have less impact than a car with a heavier front.

+1

I heard it was 13".

Nothing matters except the track time.

I agree, let the track tell you what is needed, it doesn't speculate. However,as with most competitive activities there are certain parameters that emerge as the most effective. It's quite the anomaly that a car with 12" of steer could compete with other skilled pro builders running something like 3"-4" of steer. With all else being equal the car with less steer will win, but then again if all else were truly equal one car would not require more steer than the other.

Everything being equal a car that could run perfectly straight down the track and never touch a rail will always beat a car that rides the rail. We all know however, that repeatedly going straight down any track is highly unlikely, so we spend a little of our capital (energy) insuring our car will go as straight as possible, it's a good investment that has proven returns.....but you want to spend as little capital here as you possibly can.

I suspect if you were to poll the top 10 builders on the site you will notice a close pattern of how much steer they use, my guess is less than 1" per foot .

Anything can happen on a track on any given day ,QT's 12" steer car was in the right place at the right time, I'd bet anything it's nowhere near his fastest car, if it were he'd be running the design and steer on all his cars....but I suspect he's not./images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Cram, I have watched QT and Kinser, DD4H and Skippy and Tre, and cam car, all tune cars. It is like watching an artist preform. I have learned a lot going live and looking at different builds, I have received help from the best in the business, you are always asking the correct questions which means you should be moving forward, great job man! Tuning a car is an art and I'm still just learning. Some of these guys have mastered the craft. Thanks for asking me to check your car out. All experience adds up! Good luck at nats!
