Drilling degreed hole for steer wheel

I imagine they'll look for axles with tuning slots or marks. While those aren't illegal, they are, as others pointed out, a good reason to take a closer look.

Drilling degreed hole for steer wheel

My son glues his axles in after the got pushed in during inspection one year at districts (should have seen his face when his car didn't even finish its first race), so nothing is getting pulled hopefully. He has straight BSA axles, so I doubt there will be a problem there. I do completely agree...

    NYC race

My son is racing this Saturday. Also racing Pro Stock. He's using four straight BSA axles per the rules and running graphite per the rules. No big deal really. I hope others follow the rules, but doubt it. We're using the wheels and axles from the car he won districts with, but I cut a new body...

Poor man's wheel & axle prep question...

Raid your garage and see what metal polishes you have. We use Mothers metal polish and then Brasso. We use Plastix on the wheels.

    Interpretation of rules help.

Cheating. I'm not a fan of the rule, but dummy slots would be cheating. Using a jig to drill the existing slots seems fine. Yup, no go I'm willing to guess they want graphite only, but the rule is poorly worded and in favor of someone wanting to use oil.

Wax on . . . or wax off

    What’s your burnish process?

Wax on . . . or wax off

We’re running graphite this year. We use Pledge on the axles, but should we wax the bores before adding graphite? I have Derby Worx Probore Wax

How aggressive would you go for weighting on a Scout car?

Looks good. How much weight are you using?

How aggressive would you go for weighting on a Scout car?

We run on a wooden track and run just under 4 oz. right around the rear axle, but use a dome so the bulk of the weight is more right on top of the axle. What do you use to create the weight pockets? We use a series of forstner bits and then clean it up with a Dremel. I know guys use routers...

To burnish or not to burnish--a graphite question

My son is in his last year of Cub Scouts. He has run oil the last couple of years, but now must run graphite to comply with the rules. So, should he burnish in graphite on the hubs and bores? He sprayed the nails with Pledge last time, which seemed to work.

    Black Ice and Alcohol

Why not alcohol for cleaning? I would think alcohol on a wipe carries away what it cleans. If you clean with a buffer is there no risk of the material being cleaned off contaminating oiled nails?

2017 World Championship Pinewood Derby, Times Square, New York City

Like I said before, my son had fun. At the same time he was disappointed with a couple of his finishes. That should motivate hime for next year's races at the pack, district and hopefully the Worlds again.
