I originally posted this in another thread, but this should be here.

I do not like the new SR rule changes.
Why exclude convertibles? The only one to have run that I know of is Daddio's Mach 5, and it enjoyed no advantage. If you have a convertible, you (should) have to include the interior. The body is heavier by default, the COM is further from the rears. No advantage. My reading of the old rules seemed to imply the interior req't, as I remember it (I can't verify as the rule changes have gone up on the NPWDRL site).
Why exclude open wheel cars? There have been none built and raced. None. There's the Prowler. There's the Aluma-coupe. What else? Both would be challenging builds. Dunno if either would have an advantage of less frontal area. Guess we'll never find out, eh?
Why stop short of the obvious direction this class is heading? I don't know where D4D found that Mustang Funny Car. But it is definitely a trendsetter. And we'll see more funny car builds. Poncho and Cisco are no longer alone. Fortunately, all the current generation Funny Cars are too long for this class. Along these lines, if a car has a hole in the hood for the engine and air intake, I think that it should definitely be part of the finished car.
I do not like the cars chosen only for aero advantage. Things like Vettes, Lambos, and Jag XJ220s I can understand. People have them on posters on their walls. Who has a pic of the Aerovette? Who has a pic of the Pontiac Banshee? Truth be told, I actively root against them and their ilk when watching the races.
(I don't mean to be a pest here, but where did Opa find a Dodge Charger Daytona or Plymouth Superbird that wasn't 8.9" long?)
When Daddio first changed the class to be only the Camaro, the Mustang, and/or the GTX, the intent was to get rid of those lexan slotcar/RC bodies and level the playing field with cars that looked pretty cool. But people were clamoring for a wider variety of cars (like the Olds 442). And the floodgates opened. Any car. 1/24 or 1/25 scale. And we got some pretty cool cars. And we got some... others. And now for the new year we get rules banning cars that have never raced.
How about these for rule change ideas? What about production cars only? Maybe 1975 or earlier only? Maybe a requirement that the car have headlights, a grill, and bumpers (or two of the three)? Or a revision to award for both go and show?
