2015 RULE CHANGES!

This is exactly why the class doesn't grow. Too many options or not enough options.

You need two classes. A stock class and an unlimited class. That should keep the masses happy.

I originally posted this in another thread, but this should be here.

I do not like the new SR rule changes.

Why exclude convertibles? The only one to have run that I know of is Daddio's Mach 5, and it enjoyed no advantage. If you have a convertible, you (should) have to include the interior. The body is heavier by default, the COM is further from the rears. No advantage. My reading of the old rules seemed to imply the interior req't, as I remember it (I can't verify as the rule changes have gone up on the NPWDRL site).

Why exclude open wheel cars?
There have been none built and raced. None. There's the Prowler. There's the Aluma-coupe. What else? Both would be challenging builds. Dunno if either would have an advantage of less frontal area. Guess we'll never find out, eh?

Why stop short of the obvious direction this class is heading? I don't know where D4D found that Mustang Funny Car. But it is definitely a trendsetter. And we'll see more funny car builds. Poncho and Cisco are no longer alone. Fortunately, all the current generation Funny Cars are too long for this class. Along these lines, if a car has a hole in the hood for the engine and air intake, I think that it should definitely be part of the finished car.

I do not like the cars chosen only for aero advantage. Things like Vettes, Lambos, and Jag XJ220s I can understand. People have them on posters on their walls. Who has a pic of the Aerovette? Who has a pic of the Pontiac Banshee? Truth be told, I actively root against them and their ilk when watching the races.

(I don't mean to be a pest here, but where did Opa find a Dodge Charger Daytona or Plymouth Superbird that wasn't 8.9" long?)

When Daddio first changed the class to be only the Camaro, the Mustang, and/or the GTX, the intent was to get rid of those lexan slotcar/RC bodies and level the playing field with cars that looked pretty cool. But people were clamoring for a wider variety of cars (like the Olds 442). And the floodgates opened. Any car. 1/24 or 1/25 scale. And we got some pretty cool cars. And we got some... others. And now for the new year we get rules banning cars that have never raced.

How about these for rule change ideas? What about production cars only? Maybe 1975 or earlier only? Maybe a requirement that the car have headlights, a grill, and bumpers (or two of the three)? Or a revision to award for both go and show?

I have a new SR model that's way better than my SR camaro I ran at the MOTM and finished 2nd to D4D by 2-3 tenths. My new model will stir the ****.. But it meets every rule requirement that's required. Not sure when it will race if ever but it's diffently a wow factor for sure.. There's is only 3 people that know about this and I'm sure they will agree with me..

First off, I really like the idea of running some of my cool looking, but definitely slow "show cars" on the track some day. Right now I can't justify it.

Secondly, we don't want to hear about cars that may never race. Get em on the track !!

The car won't be raced until I can attend another live event... That way no one can give me a hard time about my car. Because I know it's gonna happen..[/QUOTE

I personally think there needs to be a poll posted...either way people gonna have an opinion. I think the ones that is racing now opinion should be valued more than one that's not racing nor never ran SR

Speaking of polls, what became of the idea of only running 2 Street Rod cars at a time to minimize the air disturbance effects (and for which the poll seemed to favor).

Also any decisions on what speed badges will be used for 2015 ?

Anytime there is rule discussions it just turns into an argument. We do this for the enjoyment of the hobby and after running league races for 7 years we have figured out the best way. We listen to all ideas so please continue to share them. The rules we have now come from years of tweaking. When it comes to Street Rod there simply is no rules that will make everyone happy. We are not going to make 15 classes and watch 3 cars race. It only stresses the builders out that feel like they have to run all of the classes.

I think I will try and figure out the software setup to just run 2 at a time.

In the GPRM software setup there are boxes you can uncheck to ignore the unused lanes, but your timer may not know to send the data if it doesn't see a car cross in all four lanes. I have to mask the unused lanes in my timer as well.
