What would be a decent time on 35' track?we had our race a few weeks ago and both my sons did very well. The 1st place car ran 2.40 average for 4 laps and the other car took 3rd with 2.42 average..

Ask TX Chemist,

He will tell you the fastest time possible on a 35' track. LOL

What type of track..and car??
A pure stock type car(I'm dating myself with that statement)!or a typical scout car ... On a decently set-up besttrack
Will ... Typically.... Run as follows
3.00 42' track = 2.50 35' track
3.0142'track = 2.51 35' track
And so on for a few more hundredths
This is based on my track tested with the same cars, same day, same prep.... And was very predictable with the old track in Utah and still corresponds close to dd4's track
2.40 makes me wonder about the car type, track type, timer type and location

Funny memory about this subject... Years ago I asked the same question... For those of you who were also around ... And guess who answered mine...... FATBOY racing ! And Carolina! It all comes around I guess!

Well the track looks like it was built by Fred flintstone. From the info so far it leads me to believe that the track may be a few feet shorter than 35'. One of the men that puts the track up said it was 35' I think he needs a new tape measure. Thanks for the info.. Next year I will measure it myself.

Many of the wooden tracks are made from four, eight foot sections of plywood. After you subtract out the start gate and stopping area they end up about 28 feet.

Congrats on the finish!

The times really don't matter. If your car won, you were fast enough that day!

Kinser.. yes I was around... I usually sent cars in named after characters in Tarantino movies...Mr. White, Mr. Pink, and so on
I remember some early post of yours...5 kids too... and W before he had his website
I've been out for a couple years but now my youngest son is in scouts so I'm gearing back up... still like keeping up with whats going on though

Right on! Glad you found the best place to be! /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

5Kids and I did come on the scene about the same time.

I may can help with this question. My son just participated in his pack race. It was a 35' Besttrack with a Fast Track timer. He ran an average of 2.41 over 4 runs. IMHO that time would translate to about 2.90 - 2.98 on the NPWDRL track.

Anything close to Sub 3.0 in scouts is fast IMHO. Faster times can be had with an oil prep. My sons car could not have canted wheels on the rear.

edited for correct times see below

Totally remember those cars. The old graphite days were a blast. Here are a few racers that will bring back some memories:

Fatboy
Burpin Chunks
Acme
W Racing

There were more. Sling did you use to do the grindhouse cars as well?

Reso, looks like a typo- don't you mean 2.54? Also, once that wood track starts to sag- times get faster and faster and are impossible to cross-correlate.

Yes a typo LOL....I just checked the times on my scratch pad from when we built and tested his car

His car was running a 3.03 on a newbold timer on my 42' besttrack

His car ran a 2.412 average on a 35' besttrack with a fast track timer

Joker

Da Pine
Cecil B Deluxe
A Line Performance
Derby Dezign

These are the names that bring back memories for me.

Tagging on what reso said .... And my other post... The fast track timer fits into a different set of holes on the best track than their Champ timer = slightly different times --- that would explain a 2.40sec et on a 35' track ... The correlation on et is still valid though if the timer is the same for 35' or 42'
That 2.40 would be mid-high 2.90 on a 42' track

Cecil B !! Super nice guy!! Fast cars too... Last I heard he was an eBay seller of complete kits
And Carolina stopped racing to build a new shop ... Haven't heard anything since the big self destruction day in Utah at the old track
Definitely a better atmosphere here!!!!!!
