About car body materials...

I haven’t raced outside of Scouts yet in fear of getting addicted, but have built a ton of cars. I’ve tried the standard monokote and ply route until getting into the carbon fiber thing. After dialing in the carbon skinned stick built cars, I'm able to get the DFW weights identical. Just an FYI that there are some 0.0065 limited production sheets out there. I shoot for 65 grams behind the rear axle and remaining weight slightly offset of center just in front of the rear axle.

There’s also a cool factor about it, but that’ll need to take a backseat after I pull the trigger to race competitively.

Racing league just gives you a place to go... Think of us as a therapy group... we are all addicted.

Not at all. I’ve been curious about it too. As I said earlier, the thinnest I’ve seen is .008 ( not doubting that the .0065 is available. I just haven’t found it. ) I calculated that a full 7 x 1.75 sheet would weigh ~5.5g. That sounds too heavy, so I haven’t tried it yet.

~5.1 grams for the 0.008 stuff without adhesive, but it’s relatively easy to offset any weight difference (if any) with getting the pre skinned body as light as possible with a little extra weight stuffed in the back. I can’t tell you how much weight I shoot for on my DFW, but it’s definitely inline with some league racers.

I’ll probably send a car in for some NPWRL racing within the next few months so I’ll just have to wait to see how competitive my cars actually are. I just need to figure out if I should go for Box Stock or BASX.
