NO FENDERS, AERODYNAMIC MODIFICATIONS, WEIGHTS OR DECORATIONS ALLOWED MOUNTED IN ANY FASHION TO SEAT IN FRONT OF OR BEHIND THE WHEELS OR ANYWHERE ON THE SIDE BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR WHEEL.

The statute above is from the BASX class rules; however, it has been stated that wheels weights used inside the rear wheels are legal. We all know that wheels weights, whether they are fender washers, puma wheels weights, or the D4D weight weights, do provide some amount of aerodynamic benefits. My question is this: is it legal to use plastic wheels weights, knowing that they do not really provide any weight, but do provide the same aerodynamic benefits as a fender washer (which is legal for BASX)? The plastic wheels weights would be attached to the body, not the wheels, but be completely encased by the wheels. This seems to be within the rules to me, but I just wanted to make sure.

I personally think there shouldn't be anything in the wheel cavities including weights , washers etc.... It's aerodynamics!! But what's is there really Basic about a BASX now.. According to rules nothing should be in the wheels but things is aloud

This rule states that you cant put anything IN FRONT or BEHIND or BETWEEN the wheels, but it doesn't speak to the area inside the wheel, it sounds like anything goes to me. At least that's how I read it.

I'm 100% behind you Benji, make it come down to the best build and prep to win.

This was entertaining to read.

Every class tends to eventually morph to exploit loopholes and individual interpretation of the rules. Sometimes this leads to rule changes or a new class. I personally enjoy seeing cars change and evolve over time. Re read the rules from a different angle.

As others have stated, the rule specifically states that aero treatments, weights, etc. are not allowed "in front or behind the wheels". Inside the wheel is fair game and that was exactly the intent of rules.

The subject of allowing wheel weights or not in BASX was debated and ultimately put to vote. The forum voted to allow them. So the rules were written to allow them.

Thanks. My intent was not to rehash the subject, but since I was not installing "weight", I did not want to be gigged...

That's true. Sorry,I have a teacher in the house. There are more mistakes than that. Lol

Heh. Well, you had better not let said teacher see that sentence you just wrote. /images/boards/smilies/nono.gif

It's from the movie UP. I'm not calling anyone or anything a squirrel. This whole thing has been blown WAY out of proportion. P.s I don't have anymore time to talk. I've got lots of rear axles to bend for the next race.
