BASX Rules Clarification

I'm going to be pissed if the predators can't be used in this class, but I don't think that would happen as John wouldn't be selling the wheels now if he was just going to disallow them later. I just want to see the class as body, 4 axles and 4 wheels.
I'm guessing here that you may have taken the plunge and acquired a set of these BASX Predators. I too would be upset. But let's say that within the class is a Pro BASX class that was purposely developed for these wheels, because outside of this class, the 2.4 gram wheel is useless. The class would allow these NOS Predator wheels, 3 wheels only, a guide pin and the remainder of the BASX rule set. It's just an idea. If I had set of these wheels I'd want to get as much use out of them as possible for the money.

My two cents....

Early last year I was on the fence about racing in the pro leagues. I was intimidated at the thought of being humiliated by the big dogs. At that time John introduced a Novice class and the idea of racing other new racers triggered me to jump in. My thought was that I would EARN my way into the pros. What the Novice class also brought to John was new customers. John needs more than just the elite racers to support this league. That 2014 Novice class brought to NPWDRL/John: Bullet, TRE, Chump Change, ODD, Mr. B, Ice and myself (HurriCrane). That's at least 7 full time racers and paying customers. I may be wrong but I would struggle to name 7 racers that have joined this year. This time last year in Street Stock Pro there were about 50 cars. This year, only 22 and 5 of those were Pony Express. If John was still pulling in 200 cars every month, he wouldn't be in his current position and we would still have our race shop.

This may get me blasted but I like the idea of the BASX class being a Budget based class. It easier for a new racer to justify the cost. I also like the idea of an amateur class as a way to draw in new racers. The big dogs will have plenty of opportunity to pound lumps on the new guys when they graduate to the pro divisions. Don't chase off the potential new racers before they have had a chance to experience the thrill of the competition at NPWDRL.

Brian, you are correct the AM or Novice did bring in some new people. I guess I wish people weren't scared to try things because of a fear a failing or be humiliated. For me and my way of thinking, getting humiliated motivated me to try harder to figure things out, and it pushed me harder to better myself. I do belive that there needs to be a class for the first timers if they want to race in it. The problem becomes how do you police the cars? Say a new racer buys a car from a top racer and goes and races it in the beginner class, what happens when 3 or 4 or 5 new racers buy cars and race them. Then you bring your car you made yourself, still using all out of the box stuff and you get destroyed in the beginner class. That would discourage me way more than getting beat up the the National Champion, other proven racers. Just my thought on that. Any ideas on how to fix that would be great.

I think we all know a lot of the problems, I just think we need more people trying to come up with solutions that work for the majority, than complaining over and over again. Everyone will not be happy, you can't please everyone. But on the parts that have issues need to be voted on, and let the majority rule!

I love you guys, but I got to get my cars prepped for the race this coming weekend! A few new products to try so watch out!

Shouldn't there be rule that you have to make your own car. I can see buying a car to review its design and maybe figure some prepping issues out but I would never want to race someone else's work under my name. What fun would winning be in that scenario?

QT,

Agreed, less complaining more solutions.

Trying to Police if a racer built or bought a car is impossible to enforce. I raced against Pro built cars when I was in Novice and Am. I didn't like it but it did motivate me. Being able to run with you and Kinser was always the goal. My suggestion is to make the Am class a non points class. No trophies or extended series, just a monthly race for the beginners. Once a racer is able to achieve a set time, they are Immediately promoted to the Pro Ranks. No need to wait until the end of a series to weed out the racers who chose to purchase pro cars. If 5 racers buy cars that meet the Pro limits, they are all promoted to the pro ranks. Award them a "Pro Card" badge to their profile and welcome them to the pro ranks with the lumps you mentioned earlier. You could take this even to the extreme by running the AM class ahead of the Pro class and move the pro level cars up the same day.

We should make a couple things clear:

1.) Pro built cars are completely legal and acceptable in the AM Class. This will eliminate most of the complaining if this is clear from the beginning.

2.) A new racer should understand that if they buy a Pro car, they will be placed in the Pro ranks before they are really ready to meet that challenge as a builder. They will then have to make the decision to improve as a builder or continue purchasing cars. Let's quit pointing out and criticizing racers who choose to buy cars and accept them as part of our racing culture. We need all types to make this league grow.

Last point is that I have nothing against the Predator wheels. I like that John is offering innovative products. I just believe a budget class would be well supported. I'm just trying to present ideas that will help increase the participation numbers.

Being that my goals have not changed, I too need to prep my cars for next weeks race. See you on the track...
