best track dowel pins

I just got my BEST TRACK yesterday. Immediately started putting it together. I thought I had all of the lane sections oriented correctly, but I had the curve section turned wrong. Now I need to extract the dowel pins, without damaging them, from one end of the curve section. Does anyone have any advice?

Screwdriver turned in the slot and then take a hammer to the screwdriver to remove the dowel. Screwdriver perpendicular to the dowel. Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need a picture of this and I will produce one.
