Cant vs bent front axle?

My son and I are building his car for his derby in February. I am also thinking of building another to send in to the NPWDRL. The last 3 years I have built the cars with canted rears and the bent front axle. I have a block that was drilled by DD4H with the drilled reverse cant in the front I got last year but didn't use. Is there any advantage speed wise one way or the other? I don't have access to a track before the race but I do have a tuning board. I know you can probably do more fine tuning with the bent axle. I've had good luck going the bent axle route but I am curious to see how the drilled block will work. Thanks for any input.

You still need a bent front. The canted drill on the front end would allow you to use less bend in the axle. That will make it easier to tune... you can turn your axle more and not have it JUMP from 3" to 6".

Send it in ! We will be happy to have you on the hill !

I was under the impression that the plug and play blocks with the angle drilled in the front used a straight axle? In the description it said no tuning or bent axles necessary to build a rail runner?

Ok thanks I was planning on using a bent axle of I sent a car in. As far as using the plug and play for a scout race, do you think it would be ok to just run the straight? I got the staight axles when I ordered them. As far as league should I still drill with the angled front and use a bent axle or just drill straight fronts and bend the axle? Just when I think I got some of this stuff figured out I get brought back down to earth Lol. Thanks for the info guys. Oh one other thing. I see on the form to send a car in there is an option for amateur and pro but I didn't really find any info on the amateur class. Is it just based on you're times? I'm assuming you start out in AM. and run that up till you're times get so high if you're lucky enough to find some speed then you get bumped to pro? Kind of like a handicap score? P.S. The question on the on running the straight or angled axle I am basing that off getting the prevent axle from John so I didn't know if that angle on the axle combined with the drilled angle would be too much.

My grandsons car won pack and districts in 2015 with one of John's plug and play blocks and a straight axle. It Ran 3.0033 sec. on a pretty good 42 ft. practice track. Thats not a bad time for a scout car.

No, not bad at all for a scout car. Was that with regular axles or grooved? Thanks for the reply.

I can tell you this Robo... You will be learning for a LOOOOONG time.

I have been doing this at the league level for a couple years now, and I can tell you... I learn new things all of the time. Like you said... just when I think I got this stuff figured out... LOL

Don't get discouraged... keep the eyes and ears open, and you will see and learn a lot... a LOT !

Good luck !
