We had our Pinewood Grand Prix today, and wanted to share.

"Buzzsaw"
Outlaw-class car. 8.25" long, up to a pound of weight.

It was an idea I'd been wanting to try — running wheels down inside the rails. I neglected to consider that the openings for the pins might interfere with the car rolling. And that the stop section kinda depends on the car falling onto it and dragging to a stop.

Added spoilers to clean up the air.

Underneath, too. Car only weighed 7.5 oz. Set the track record. Twice.

The "Titliest" - Scout class car.

Named in homage to Beavis and Butthead. It was another idea I'd wanted to try out - golf ball dimples. Yes. They were a *huge* PITB to do.

Added clear packing tape for aero. Probably should add some lightening up front...

I'll be sending this one in as a Box Stock entry. /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif

Titliest! I remember that episode and can still hear Beavis say it in my head. And Mr. Anderson, "Hey these balls look kinda familiar"

Great Job on these cars,,Love the look of Buzzsaw.

This car reminds me of the episode of MythBusters, can dimples actually increase fuel mileage or something like that. Some years ago I started to make a car like this, but quickly gave up due to the PITA repetitive nature, and challenge, of drilling all those dimples. Now, if I had a CNC machine that would be another story. Hats off to you for taking on such an effort and completing the challenge. Hope it runs well for you!

Yep! Been there and done that.

It was the Mythbusters episode that kinda convinced me to do it. The wood grain kept kicking my Dremel around, which is why the front end is looking as wonky as it is. Thanks, G. And I harbored many CNC-Machine fantasies as I did it.

The Titliest was the fastest standard car there, a couple hundredths ahead of the next car.

We'll see if my drill job is any good and/or the dimples have any benefit when I turn it in to the Box Stock class. /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif
