They are called or made by Microbrush/ Size Superfine / Product no. MHS10 small white and purple pack should be in thisle with the testors paints near the Derby accessories. ( assuming your store is similar in layout) You should also be able to see these on Microbrush.com. These will be white in color and have a very soft flexible tip that looks like a micro q-tip and will not scratch or cause body damage and are actually 10 for $1.99. What I did was I loaded up the tip slid it in the bore and rolled the applicator... turned the wheel sligthly and repeated multiple times. really made a difference in our cars this year. My sons went undefeated in their den and lost only one lost one race to the other for the pack championship. We also won sibling races undefeated and the dad/cubmaster races undefeated. I will not race without it from now on.

Coffee stirrer straw to apply the graphite. Your rules for the race are ridiculous. You aren't allowed to make a rail runner?! WTF? Try enforcing that one. Oh no my car is running straight down the rail, does that disqualify me? Plus trying to enforce 4 on the floor is almost impossible since most slots are not straight or even. I love when packs try to over engineer the rules to make it "fair" for everyone. Here's the key every rule maker misses. It's impossible to make it fair for everyone b.c you'll always have dad's that build a car in a day and you'll have dad's that work with their son and teach them over a month. What's the next rule? Rule 6.1.2.1 You can only spend 30min a day working on the car and must video the scout working on the entire thing and if you're car is too fast then you're cheating and we need more rules.

+1

Plus don't forget rule 18.3 sub chapter 6: "Whatever you do, don't allow for teaching your son WHY we raise a wheel, or move the COM or add a 3 degree cant"

It's sad to think of all the boys out there that AREN'T learning real world examples of concepts because time isn't spent working on them, because it's against a rule.....

I have to give my pack credit, the only "dumb" rule we have is the wheelbase length. Not bad considering all the rules I've read here. We have the no oil rule too, but at least there's a valid/understandable reason for it.

Ok, off my soapbox

But it is ok to drown their cars with graphite that gets all over everything? Maybe everyone should change their rules to say “Any type of lubrication is allowed but any car dropping lubrication onto the track (dry or wet) will be removed from the competition.”

There go all the graphite cars! They nearly always "spill" graphite all over the place.

lol

With a specially design car to allow gross weight adjustments, we gave a workshop this year demonstrating the effects of weighting to the max, COG, alignment (adjusting the DFW with a screwdriver), and wind resistance (sleek design). There were a number of people interested, including some leaders and surprisingly, a few cubs. I don't race at the level most of you do, so I do not mind sharing any secret I know, but they do need to build up knowledge slowly, just as I had too, and am still doing.

In the end, when I learn how to build a fast car, I shall be unbeatable. All part of my master, and ever so devious plan.

Wanted to give some follow-up. I tested DD4H graphite and did find it faster by about 0.004 seconds on average compared to XLR8. Every bit helps!! I also used the Clean Eraser on the wheels.

Today was the District Derby. My son (second year Webelo) had won first place in our Pack Derby 2 weeks ago. Today he won first place among Webelos and the second place overall in the District with a time of 2.577. First place was a time of 2.567. Overall a great day for him.

Thanks to everyone for all of your advice. This was our last derby and I wish we had found this site sooner, although his career record was excellent:

Wolf 3rd Place Pack
Bear 1st Place Pack, 1st Place Overall District
First Year Webelo 2nd Place Pack, 3rd Place Webelo District
Second Year Webelo 1st Place Pack, 1st Place Webelo District, 2nd Place Overall District

Thanks

Steve
