Understanding that you should set your car up so that the rear wheels run free when the DFW is in contact with the rail - is there a target gap one should try to achieve between the DFW and the rail when setting up the car?

Are you talking about staging or building? When most ppl build their car they will cut or sand down the DFW side about 1/32"-1/16" so the rear wheels stay away from the rail. Staging is pretty standard if you choose rail, your DFW will be slightly touching the rail. Daylight your DFW will be just off the rail, approximately 1/16". Scott has a thread about staging that talks about that. Hope this helps.

Thinking about the build - I know a lot of folks like to put as much bend as possible into the DFW axle which puts the DFW pretty much on the rail once the car is built.
