During quiet moments, I do my best to not think about things that are unlikely to come to pass.

I can see that you are a trouble maker too.

Some can build their own parts and good for them but most don't have the understanding or tools to do that and buying the parts are MUCH cheaper than learning how to build them. Nobody here is racing to be second so does it really matter who builds the cars? The goal is to be able to beat anybody that dares touch the track with you. The other goal is to NOT be a puss when you lose. Get better every race and challenge yourself.

Scout race use = Not Cool, defeats the purpose of the event.
League racing = Much like real racing - NASCAR, Dirt, Sprints, etc.....
In real racing, there are;
Owners
Team Managers
Crew Chiefs
Engine Specialists
Tire Specialists
Engineers
Builders - Chassis and body
Tuners - engine and body
Painters
Tire changers
Drivers
and on and on............

This is where the true fun lies.aksnowfun said:This is very educational for me as I am on the other end of the spectrum...lol!
I just threw my first league car together in a couple days and express shipped it in to John today just so I could participate in the race next weekend and see what the experience is all about, figure out the process of doing it. I did not want to wait another month, body will probably be stripped and go in the garbage after the race...we'll see! I know this is not the best car I have built, nor was it fully tuned, too much lube probably, I didn't get the supplies I ordered in time, its stuffed half with putty, cheap tape covering the bottom, etc, lol
But the fact is that I built it and will get to watch that car, and all of your cars, together at the same time. That's what is appealing to me. If I was to buy a car, have no ownership in it, why even send one in, I could just watch you guys race for free! I don't have a track to test mine against a DD4H car, and wondering if I could learn $200 dollars of information from just inspecting it??
Just my take on it...the lure of this is testing your skills, learning and improving against yourself first...and hopefully you end up towards the top and then worry about beating everyone! Similar to other hobbies I have, like reloading, golf, but now there's more folks to play with and some great competition! /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif
I know I am probably summarizing or repeating what I've absorbed from this forum, but that's probably a great sign of the attitude and health of this place!
Thanks all for making a new guy feel welcome, and also to the guys that have helped me out so far!
