Here's the kicker/issue with buying a car. What do you do when I beat you?

During quiet moments, I do my best to not think about things that are unlikely to come to pass.

I think JBD will cut you a deal on one if you're interested. Ask Flying W how much they are.

I can see that you are a trouble maker too.

No trouble here. Just pointing out contact people if someone is interested in buying a car instead of wondering.

Remember this is a racing league and not the scouts. Buy what you want and race what you want. It doesn't matter what hobby you are in, most people at very least buy all the parts. Some can build their own parts and good for them but most don't have the understanding or tools to do that and buying the parts are MUCH cheaper than learning how to build them. Nobody here is racing to be second so does it really matter who builds the cars? The goal is to be able to beat anybody that dares touch the track with you. The other goal is to not be a puss when you lose. Get better every race and challenge yourself.

I agree with you completely John. I have no ill will towards anyone who buys their cars. It doesnt matter who races them, you have to beat them reguardless. Ill just be more selective when I recognise people being a good builder because I was out of the loop as to who all is racing purchased cars. Not that that matters, but recognition for them will change that's for sure.

I love my wife and kids. I like PWD. I like building cars when I have time. Do I cry because I don't have a track? Is it the same if Fred drills his own block but Same buys his predrilled?

A bought car doesn't equal fast and that racer still has to manage that car. There have been a lot of cars that have traded hands in adult league racing over the years, leagues and classes. This is not something "new."

A Scout race on the other hand is just that. An opportunity to spend time with the kids. So I don't sound hypocritical I will spell it out. Buying cars for Scout races=BAD. Adult League racing like every other adult hobby/sport= To each his own, have fun and enjoy.

I could give some real good analogies, but I will save the reading unless asked. Otherwise John summed it up nicely.

Buying a car to reverse engineer and benchmark yourself - great idea!

Scout race use = Not Cool, defeats the purpose of the event.

League racing = Much like real racing - NASCAR, Dirt, Sprints, etc.....

In real racing, there are;

Owners
Team Managers
Crew Chiefs
Engine Specialists
Tire Specialists
Engineers
Builders - Chassis and body
Tuners - engine and body
Painters
Tire changers
Drivers
and on and on............

Hey just like PWD, racing, there are;

stagers
and on and on............

BINGO!

I agree, but that would require the buyer to become a builder if they were to actually reverse engineer. Not always the case.

So JBD is like the Hendricks Motorsports of PWD racing?

This is very educational for me as I am on the other end of the spectrum...lol!

I just threw my first league car together in a couple days and express shipped it in to John today just so I could participate in the race next weekend and see what the experience is all about, figure out the process of doing it. I did not want to wait another month, body will probably be stripped and go in the garbage after the race...we'll see! I know this is not the best car I have built, nor was it fully tuned, too much lube probably, I didn't get the supplies I ordered in time, its stuffed half with putty, cheap tape covering the bottom, etc, lol

But the fact is that I built it and will get to watch that car, and all of your cars, together at the same time. That's what is appealing to me. If I was to buy a car, have no ownership in it, why even send one in, I could just watch you guys race for free! I don't have a track to test mine against a DD4H car, and wondering if I could learn $200 dollars of information from just inspecting it??

Just my take on it...the lure of this is testing your skills, learning and improving against yourself first...and hopefully you end up towards the top and then worry about beating everyone! Similar to other hobbies I have, like reloading, golf, but now there's more folks to play with and some great competition! /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

I know I am probably summarizing or repeating what I've absorbed from this forum, but that's probably a great sign of the attitude and health of this place!

Thanks all for making a new guy feel welcome, and also to the guys that have helped me out so far!

This is where the true fun lies.

Bullet,
You are my hero.
Best of luck with the race. You may do better than you think.
If not it is of little concern because there will be another race in a month.
For guys like us the journey is the destination.

Others want to enjoy and get involved in the hobby in the way they feel comfortable.
We each have to find our own happiness in this world and no one way is correct.
To race a pro car in a scout race seems somewhat cowardly to me but in the leagues there are no holds barred.

This is one of my analogies as Chief pointed out. Everybody has a slightly different skill set. What is there maybe 5 guys in the world that can cut a great bearing wheel? Is there even that many?

EDIT: I guess there are most likely more, I don't know the guys in other leagues.

This is such a funny post.... I really don't know what to say or reply to this. Just for the record ! I will sell any car I have for the right PRICE... And I'm sure QT would also!!! What funny there's no one complaining about and of the other builders that sells cars!! People would really be surprised whats cars are really racing in Novice & Amatuer... Just typical drama!! Just remember a car has to be tore apart and re prepped!! I guess I could always re prep the cars for them... And tune.. Why can't people just race!!!

I think the biggest complaint people are having in the amateur and novice class is they are racing against purchased cars (not the complaint) that are made by pro class builders. It would be like Payton Manning playing QB for your local high school team. I don't personally care who I race against b.c I'm only worried about my times and I'll eventually be racing JBD and QT soon anyway. The re-prep is true and we will see times drop off but on that note, how much are you charging for re-prep?
