Flex v.s. Rigid body styles

For those of us who have been in the league racing we have seen some very cool, unique and even weird ideas. Simple answer is you don't see any of these cars listed in the top 50. I watched a car that balanced on 2 wheels claim to be so fast but the wipe out was epic. The formula for success has been posted and re-posted. Its the fine details which make the 1% in the leader boards.

That is probably true for the overwhelming majority of cases...but you have to appreciate those willing to experiment and push the envelope. I mean, fenders started as something of a novelty, and now you see them on all of the fat wheel cars.

It probably took a while for rail riding (excuse me, running) techniques to get hammered out, so I have to wonder if there will be any next big thing for derby racing.

Fenders were never a novelty to those of us who started using them in the beginning. They have become the best they can be at this point. It was already the top guys that were fighting to stay on top. I will be bold and put the prediction out there that a derby with suspension will not be as fast as a rigid car. I know I have tested similar things and they were slower. Stiffen them up they became faster. Pushing the envelope is what its all about. Back in the day everyone figured out their own secrets and this board did not just give it away. NPWDRL has allowed anyone to read and become a cub or district champion. However, playing with the big boys is a different story.

True, as soon as I found this site my boys went from a weak 2nd for the den to first place in Den and Pack two years in a row. Districts is in two weeks, wish my son (and me) luck.

In NASCAR they are always talking about clean and dirty air. From being beside another car to how it also effects passing a car. With the scale speeds we are running which are equal to or faster than NASCAR dirty air is there for us to deal with. I believe dirty air is there in about any type of racing, just in different degrees.
