Anyone Using the GrandPrix Race Software? I got a quick crash corues last year before they toild me I would be running it this year. But I think my brain has forgotten what I was told.

So last week I go looking for the race software in out derby box and it NO where to be found. So after talking with a few of the past adults of the pack they told me who has the software and I got him to get me the serial number. I was able to update from ver8 to ver12 for only $10.

Now I need help remembering how to run the software. So any helpful hints or tip would be great. Our race is Jan 26 then We will lone the track to the awannas on the 27th and I will be running the races both days. Were have a 5 lane wooden track with a microwizard finish line.

It's been a year since I ran it, but I remember it being very straightforward. Create a new database. Create groups. List boys. Connect to track. Test connections. Race.

Unfortunately, I won't be touching the software until the 27th, when I set up the track for AWANAs on the 30th, and then the Cub Scouts on the 2nd.

Thanks Crash!

Luckly I will be getting the finis line part of the track tomorrow and can hook it up and play with it a bit.

Epop, I feel your pain/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif I got named Track Master for this years races. I will give you this about the software. You will need to make a different group for each level (TIGER, WOLVES, BEARS, WEBLOS1, WEBLOS 2, and if you are having adult/siblings race I made an OUTLAW) group. If your doing a race at the end of the day to see who is the all time winner of the pack, create another group and add the winners to that group at the end of the day. Another really big time saver is if you can get an excel list of all of the cub scouts, you can enter them in ahead of time and setup the groups faster. That way on weigh in night, you can just click pass or not in the registration part of the software. Also the you will need more than just the timer. You will need the track start gate to test the release of the gate and see how electronic will communicate with the computer and the timer. If you want I wrote a document on how to setup the track for my Den that goes through the physical setup. It doesn't cover the group setup, but it's pretty organized. It may give you some ideas. I'm hoping I will be saving the next guy a lot of work when my son is done with cub scouts/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif Email me if you want a copy of it. It's in Word97.

Thanks sondo007 I will send you and email Shortly.

I did get the timer last night and was so excited about getting to work out any issues that might come up this weekend. Got it all hooked up jsut to be a little Frustrated. Just like you said I need the starting gate also. GRRRR
angry
oh well I will have to get the start gate and that that point I guess the rest of the track. thanks for the info

Epop, I sent you the word doc for your review. Like DD4H said you can use the subgroups to race everybody. My son's Pack leaders told me they wanted separate groups, because the skill levels at each age group would be different and wanted to keep it fair for each den. So we hand out trophies to each first place scout in their den and then an over all trophy for the whole pack. We have a pretty large pack, so if you got a smaller pack the subgroups can be an easier solution. Hope this helps, Good Luck/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

EPOP,
I'm a new user of the 12.x.x.x version of the software. The stuff is a piece of cake. My first race I ran was 100+ cars on a 6 lane best track. You will want to run Sub-groups. I set up my Group as "Pack XXX" then the den ranks underneath as sub-groups. The cool thing is, is that you can run all cars together but in the end you can sort out all the winners by den or overall winners by using the "Reports". Biggest thing is picking the right type race for your pack. We ran a "Perfect - N" which gives you a high number of different opponents but needs some organization to stage the cars. Just make sure the software is set up correctly and test the hardware and you should be good to go. If you have any questions just keep posting or PM

+1

It also helped me to set up a fake race with just a few fake scouts and a couple fake sub-divisions and then run a race and enter the times in manually. You can then figure out how to re-run heats, show results and create a Grand final round. That way you aren't fumbling around on race day.

Yeah that will Be my plan for tonight. I have set up a fake race. I had to build my a mock start gate with an old arcade button I had. So when the Boys get home from school I can get the to help me out a little bit by being the fake cars.

Hey just a quick update on how things went.

I got to get evrything set up after running a few fake races. We pulled it off without a hitch. It went so well they some parent of the cub pack ask me to come run thier Awans races the next day. They also ran with out a hitch.

So I jsut wanted to thank ALL Y'ALL that helped me out with your advice.

Thanks

For having a Great Day without any hitches, hick ups ... That I would imagine could put pressure on one person ... I can just imagine how everything went... Everyone running around and being excited as the cars run..

Keep Up the Great Work you are doing with the Packs ..

I too just got the software. I did some test races just waving my hand over the timer.
We have very few boys in the pack, maybe 12. Should I set up a group say Pack 21 and do sub groups Tigers, Wolves, Bears etc and race them all together? Also after the cars have passed over the timer should i close the gate, hit next then timer ready. I had a hiccup with this in one of my test races.

If the software will handle it (I think it will, but haven't tried this scenario), then it makes sense to run the cars all together. At the end, announce the fastest Tigers, Wolves, Bears, etc. That oughta keep 'em guessing and add to the excitement.

We ended up with a whopping 8 racers! One showed up late, just as I was about to open the gate for the first heat. The software was great, and setting the subgroups up worked flawlessly.
