Out of curiosity, has anyone tried to mix Kylox with alcohol to reduce the viscosity even further? The viscosity needs to be thin enough to allow a free spinning lightweight piece of plastic, but thick enough to "stick" on the axle and not just pour out. And then there is fluid dynamics, a subject I'm not ready to broach.

My oil skillz are....well, I have none. My oil times are about identical to that of graphite, with the exception that the oil seems to last longer. I expected it to be faster by a small margin, but I'm sure that is related to prep and/or application. The "secrets" are in the mail, but I'm just doin' a little advance leg work...

FYI krylox 100 has a viscosity of 7. Water has a viscosity of 0. So to cut the viscosity even more would take a product that will more than likely evaporate before it can be raced.

I tried so many different oils, mixes, and concoctions. I have yet to find any thing faster than DD4H oil, been using the same bottle for a year now. For me it's like a fine wine keeps getting sweeter with time.

PWD poetry from QT?

Not as good as your builds, but good.

Actually with viscosity over time the viscosity will get heavier (larger number) because the lighter products inside the oil eventually will evaporate. So as fresh of Krytox 100 as you can get is the lowest viscosity you'll get.

My cars times say something different.

hmmm
Plus if the bottle is sealed and shaken before opening there's not anywhere for the evaporation to go. I am running a car that has been prepped for almost a year and a half with almost no speed drop, and its not in a sealed container either.
hmmm

If your bottle is sealed and you shake it, the light ends in the oil mixture dont condense because the temperature is the same. When you open the vapors will release that way. As far as your speeds, I dont think they can be solely attributed to the oil... may have something to do with the "prep process"?

The evaporation comes from an additive added to the oil to make the viscosity lighter. Overtime that will evaporate, depending on how light it is, and go back to the viscosirty the oil was before the additive.

Sometimes science just doesn't make sense. From what I have seen from Quicktime, I would have to go with what he says versus what science says.

Krytox oil is the farthest thing from mineral oil. It does not act the same.
Even though DD4H has a special blend, per his instructions you still must shake.
Non flammable space oil that does not want to mix with other chemicals. The dupont FAQ sheet is interesting.

So - there is something additional I could do to Kylox to make it "better", but I could spend many agonizing hours looking for it...Got it.

Ready to say "been there done that" without doing it and just buy DD4H oil. Maybe when I'm ready to challenge QT, I might experiment. I have a long way to go before I get to that point though.

Everybody, as you were.

I believe TRE had some interesting results trying different krytox before buying Johns blend.

I really don't believe that there is enough evaporation on these cars to ever make a difference. The car that I take to a lot of scout races I'm surprised it hasn't lost much. I thought if it doesn't all evap out it would all push out, but it hasn't. It's funny when I think it has slowed down I clean the wheels and poof the speed is back.

That's it I need to clean my wheels. Poof speed. Wait my car is gone can not clean my wheels. Just playing QT !! /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif/images/boards/smilies/tongue.gif /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif.
