Pledge on axles

Got a couple new products today, 1 for oil prep and 1 for graphite prep. I'll do the testing in January when I can get to a track and let you guys know on the results. Very interesting place I found these products from...

One question about using pledge. Do you guys apply it similar to Jig? Spray it on, shake off excess, let dry, install wheel, and add graphite? Or do you wipe the axle off before you install. I was pondering whether or not the pledge still leaves an invisible film to hold the graphite after being wiped clean. Last year I didn't wipe off the axles after it dried. I was questioning whether that is leaving too thick of a layer or not. We ran pretty fast last year but the timer wasn't working at the pack race where we ran without pledge compared to the districts where they fixed the start gate solenoid and we using pledge. Most of my sons car was built before I really figured out most of the best methods shared on here so I don't think that was really a deal breaker anyway.

I have read through this thread a couple of times now and I too have a question, I purchased axles from DD4H and had him do his "Legendary Prep" to them. As my grandson and I are now working on his scout car, do I need to use pledge on these axles before I mount them or is the prep that DD4H all that is needed. I do not want to mess up a great set of axles but yet I want to give my grandson the best car we can for his upcoming races.

Thanks,
Grandpa Racing

You will maybe want to PM DD4H to confirm if he applies anything for the graphite process after polishing. You're going to be crazy fast as is regardless of pledge.

No results yet mofast. Had some upset going on at work so haven't done much but work. I'll post what I find as soon as I do.

I spray ours, let stand a few minutes, and lightly wipe off.

My wife suggested I practice on a few furniture pieces to get the process down /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Can I pledge my axles now? The race is in 2 weeks. I have the axles in a tight container pierced in Styrofoam with a Silica gel pack inside.

I don't see an issue with doing it now. I don't believe the product evaporates, especially if you seal them up. But I have not done any extensive testing to prove this out. I think Skippy Kicky may have ran a test like this some time ago.

I don't whipe the pledge off, I just let it dry. You can add graphite after the axle and wheel are on, but spin them a lot. You have to work that loose graphite in. Loose graphite will slow you down. That's why I don't recommend adding graphite. If your wheel and graphite prep is done correctly no additional graphite is needed.
