Hi, my son and I have set up his pinewood derby car for his hometown alum. track. It is a railrider with 1" COG. One week after pack race we will be going to district race where there is one alum. track and one wood track, we won't know until registration what track we will be racing. My queston is will the car perform on the wood track if we happen to get that track?

For the life of me I can't understand why at a district race they do this to scouts. Whomever organizes the events should use one track for everyone. Do you know the slope of the wooden track?

I don't know anything about the track other than it's wooden. Our pack is taking our alum. track, they say to speed things up, but there is no guarentee we will be racing on it.
You will not be racing against Pros ( most likely) , and so a 1" COG is just fine, not super aggressive and should be stable on both tracks. When running a 3-wheeler, leave it at a strong drift, not over-optimized for your aluminum track. Most likely, your prep on wheels and axles will win the race. DO make sure you are up at the 5oz. limit.
Thank you all for your responses. Last year we took 1st in pack and 3rd in district with car being aligned straight. This is our first year doing a railrider, so far so good. We are right at 5oz and run shopvelox wheels and axles with derbydad4hire graphite (great stuff). Our pack race is 03-30-2013 will let everyone know how it turns out.
I would love to my only thing is our rules say we can't run mold matched wheels nor can they be beveled. They say they have to come out of kit. Shopvelox wheels were the only ones I could find that would pass these rules.
Ouch, then you got taken on the wheels... First in the cost and second in the quality. You can get DD4H BASX wheels for cheaper and they are better and you can get them non mold matched as well... Just because someone say "BSA legal" doesn't mean anything. I read how SV machines wheels and that's not how you do it.... well if you want to be fast.
Wow that sucks for me, thanks for the info though. Will be giving DD4H a call to order their wheels an axles, I guess live and learn.
