Yes, it will be run on a best track. My son and I typically build cars once a year to race on his packs track. It is a 32’ wooden track. (Someone’s Eagle Scout Project I think. It’s really starting to show it’s age though.) My brothers pack however has a 42’ best track. So, this year I build one just for fun to run in their race. Their rules however leave a lot of speed on the table. Have to use wood slots (drilled above cut slots deeper then sanded bottom to reduce), no wheel modifications other than sanding and polishing, have to use nails from the box, and graphite only. All in all it should still be a decent car, so long as they don’t consider my slot modifications cheating. Racing the dads not the kids. I’ll post how it runs not sure I’ll even be able to see it run. Too many plans on the same day. We’ll see.

Should be able to get some speed with stock parts, maybe not as fast as a basx leage car but it should run if done well. Alot of folks have to use stock parts but i get what you are saying, hopefully its fast as it looks. Good luck!

Luckily we have never had to deal with using slots or a stock wheelbase or wheel placement. At least you were able to drill your axle holes.

Weigh in’s are done, delivered car.... They gave me grief about the diameter of my tires... Measured and said I sanded to much off yet, they did not specify a minimum diameter. I was then informed that I as and adult in their race and I was running in they’re outlaw class for them anyways.... WTF! I left all that speed on the work bench trying to follow the rules. I still get to race. But what the hell? Ps. They test run my car on a 42’ best track 3.1 they said “Holy shit” it’s fast... so... I’ll post final times and speeds I’ll be able to make it to the race.

Nice. That's a interesting update.
I start our car builds next week for our churches Awana Grand Prix. Buying DD4H's wheel & axle systems with oil. Reading your adventure is exciting. Can't wait to race! actually cant wait to BUILD too.
Hope you kill it tomorrow!
Regards,
Jimmy

Few photos from the day. I posted fastest track time of the day at 3.042. And my son who ran his car from last year had the closest race and time from the day. With only .001 between him and another racer. His fastest time of the day was 3.095. So, not too bad. All and all we had fun. Ps. I did have a case of the wiggles. Any advice on what to look for to correct it?

Consider:
1) clean wheels of debris, graphite, and wax with mild abrasive pad/micromesh
2) check rear alignment
3) check steer; add more
4) tightening the rear gaps; check front as well
5) move weight forward (only adding a few grams to the FDW)
6) check rear wheels; hubs or edges deformed; replace
7) repolish a new set of rear axles (diameter is too small)
8) repolish a new set of rear axles (rear axles slightly bent)

Could be any one or all of these things. 1 thru 5 are easy to do and usually can correct most problems.

Nice work on the track both of you!
I know Track to Track can mean different times for different reasons but it’s interesting to see your times. Fast cars man.
Last year I did everything by hand with no tooling including hand-drilling by eye rear axle holes. Mistake. Had to run a bent axle to correct. But kept testing alignment and got it running straight before the race. I also just polished and sanded with what I had. This year I have the drillpress and DD4H’s Black Ice and Axle polish kits and running oil instead of graphite. Real curious to see what happens.

Best my daughters car went last year was 3.08? Can’t remember the thousandths #. New 42’ 4 lane Bestrack on its virgin race.

How often are you able to race each year?

Thanks for posting. It’s been fun watching and your car looks great. Monocote covering by chance?

Bottom is steggo tape. We us it at work for taping the seams on 15mil vapor barrier plastic under concrete slabs. Stuff will stick to anything and can be peeled back and still stick like new. It’s a little expensive. ($40 a roll) I cover the top with a piece of 1/64 birth plywood. I still like to paint the cars. Amazon is an amazing store... I sand my nails with 15 grades of paper ending with 1 micron.

It’s been fun sharing the build. I’ll run 2 races this year. My son and I have 3 weeks to build 2 new cars for his pack race.

Ps I recommend a silver bullet or one of the other

I found my LHS has trim monocote for cheap which i'll do. my son wants spiderweb wrap again. But my daughter loves to paint. She'll get the 1/64 ply covering and paint it with her friends at church. Their 2 cars from last year are in my avatar pic. still not sure what I'll close up the bottom with though. I'll post our adventures too.
Please be sure to post your next builds. Those are the best threads.

The steggo tape can be bought at white cap. They are a contractor supply company but, they also sell to the public.
