Who is Ready for the Mid America Pinewood Derby 2017 - updated

I had to axe my chance at getting a car in due to vacation schedule and then family medical issues but following this thread has me excited to pay close attention to the results. Now I don't think I'll be able to watch on Saturday so you guys better post your results! ;)
I wanna see how ya'll did. I will just race vicariously thru you!

Blessings and Speed!!! :D

I have been following this thread and the other one about cleaning the wheels off before the race, complete irony today that my nephews car finishes second by 1/1000th of a second total time to a car with the wheels smothered in graphite, they were literally grey, I couldnt believe it. they let you relube before they take the cars for the council race and the winners were running the wheels through a pile of graphite on a plate , got to talking to the dad and figured if you cant beat em join em, i rolled my car through the lucky plate also. graphite on the wheels didnt beat us though car would get loose halfway down the home stretch , wiggles cost me more than a 1000th i am sure. need to learn how to steer a 4 wheel touching car. but off to council none the less..... have pics and video will post a thread tonight or tomorrow, have to get my daughters car boxed up for the post office in the morning. Mid America here we come :)
I've learned that if you have to have all four wheels touching, you should get the fourth wheel up just a hair so that it only touches part time, like touching 1/4 of the time on a full rotation.

That would be awesome if you can get a graphite hawks car done tonight...I'm hoping we can make it out there next year as well. Let me know if you get one done. Bring on the retribution!!! Lol!!!
Hey Rick, I didn't realize the sibling race was graphite only. So I had to use my spare parts to rework my daughters car to graphite. Therfore, I did not have time to build a second Hawks car. We will have to save the Patriots vs. Seahawks battle for the league races. Look for the Moana car in the sibling open graphite class. Best of luck to you and your kids.

I'm sorry to hear that...I have never raced in a league before but I think, for next year's Mid America race we should do a build with a Super Bowl 49 theme so we can settle this...lol...that is the right Super Bowl for the pats and the hawks right? I'll do a side bet with you for a couple bottles of pop or water, payable the day of the race...lol...I will be watching for your daughters car and yours too. I'm not sure we'll watch the entire day but we'll probably watch a lot of it...I hope you and the kids do well!

Ok everyone... online registrations are wrapping up... Car Counts are in the several hundreds.... as usual competition levels will be off the charts --- Pro Online Registration and Scout Online Registration will close at Midnight on Wednesday - make sure to get registered - www.midamericaderby.com

I have also been updating facebook page with all the AWEOME prizes that we are going to be giving out this year in addition to the many 200+ Trophies at this years event. https://www.facebook.com/MidAmericaPinewoodDerby

The Mid America Pinewood Derby truly thanks all of your for your support in making it the premier Scout Race in the Country - and a perfect place to get a taste of Pro / League Racing - We start set up tomorrow AM - and anyone that is coming in from out of town is welcome to come up and be a part of creating another special event that will be EPIC !!!

JBD Racing won't be attending Mid America this year or sending , also my son did not want to compete or build a car either. Good luck to everyone. Have to get cars ready for league racing at NPWDRL for May

Looks like no Skywalkers either. :( I really wanted to participate with my two boys.

John really went out of his way to get us 4 sets of wheels by the end of last week so we could build each boy a graphite and an oil car, but when they got home on Friday from being out of town for a week, the weather was so beautiful they didn't want to stay inside working on cars.

I didn't want to be the one dad on planet Earth who'd rather his kids spend less time outside, so I asked a dozen times, but did not push. I certainly wasn't going to do the work for them.

Oh well, we'll have a year to prep now. :)

BIG thanks to DerbyDad4Hire for the first-rate service, and sincere apologies for adding to an already stressful move.

Good luck to everyone racing and all the volunteers and organizers!

Will proxy competitors also be included in the prizes at the Mid America Derby? Or are prizes just for the people who are present.

Two cars (cub scout graphite and adult graphite) in Omaha and out for delivery today! Both cars are all prepped by us stock BSA parts so I don't imagine either will be all that competitive but thought it would be neat to see how the cars did amongst all the aftermarket axles and lathed tires. Had originally wanted to order in the parts from DD4H and John even said he would get the tires and axles out for me but with kid activities and adult activities popping up over the weekend I didn't think I would have time to prep the new tires/axles and get the cars together, so we sent in the already prepped by us stock stuff. My 7 year old is really looking forward to watching his car race online, I hope mine just makes it down the track.......had a last minute FDW tire and fender rubbing issue and in the rush to get them in the mail even after cleaning with air the tire isn't spinning like I think it should. I'm pretty sure the hub has a bit of balsa and paint dust in it......... But I guess you won't know unless you let them go!
