New to me Sherline Lathe questions

DRO is a must in my book. Like Mojo, I have DROs on both the lathe and mill. Shop-Vac is very handy in keeping the work area clean. I debated the mill conversion for the lathe but ultimately decided against it and I'm glad that I did. I just like the convenience of having both setup and ready to...

Tuning tables ....Pictures and bragging rights

In my early days, I used a very smooth finished concrete floor that I marked out and cleaned very well. The floor had a natural slope for drainage and it seemed like a no-brainer to me, at the time. I did well with it. I then upgraded to a tuning board about a year or so later. The markings are...

    Axle o.d./ wheel i.d.

Wow! Those are some large wheel bores at .110". Is that a BSA wheel and what are you using to determine bore diameter? Typically you can expect to see wheel bore diameters in the mid to upper 90's range.

Hello community! CM and weight distribution questions.

I agree with LB, the three scale concept is the best way to go, but in the meantime play around with this tool mentioned below. In the interest of understanding how weight shifts around with the slightest of weight change, the COM Visualizer is a great tool to help understand how the weight...

    Dad "unlimited" class wheels

I understand the idea of wanting to do this on your own but let's not be fool-hearty. Like TRE said the other dads will likely be purchasing wheels for this unlimited class. Do yourself the favor and spend a little money on wheels and spend your time getting the car ready and not fabricating...

How much time do you have until districts? Pictures tell a lot, post any if you can of the current car. It will be easier to give you guidance if we can see what we have to work with.

    New Tuning Table all finished.

Typically you can find a piece a safety glass, (shatterproof glass, tempered) at the local glass shop that sells residential glass. Generally, they can custom cut a piece to your specs. Otherwise, you can get lucky and stumble across one from an old storm door. Search Craigslist in your area...

    notched DFW

The excerpt, from the mentioned link, in reference to your question: "Narrow the front dominant side of your car about 1/16". The biggest issue with scouts cars is that they drag the rear wheels the entire way down the track."

    Grrr I need some help

Dennis, don't make an apples to apples comparison between these tracks you're talking about. I can promise you if you run your car down my 30 ft track, times will be different from your track, for all the reasons mentioned in my other response. Like Mojo said, "...improve your times on YOUR...
