    2018 National Championships!!!

I'm ready for this already. I had to finish up the scout graphite build with my kid 3 weeks ago because of my work schedule. It didn't turn out exactly like I wanted but that's part of the fun. Hopefully I'll finally have a competitive basx (pure 2.4) car. I still might have to much steer in...

    Monokote or Vinyl? (embossing)?

I ordered some vvivid vinyl and it was a lot easier to work with than the monokote. The back had some sticky tac, not a lot, but with low heat it stuck very nicely. The color options and detail in the wrap is pretty cool too.

    Monokote or Vinyl? (embossing)?

A lot of people say vinyl. I'd like to know which brand or type they're using. I use monokote. We have a bunch.

    Weight Behind Rear Axle OK?

Derby Dad for Hire sells a pre-drilled block that you can get axles cut. Holes are far superior to get consistency out of a car. Our rules mandate slots but we fill and drill.

    Weight Behind Rear Axle OK?

We have to use the stock wheelbase so we started cutting off the block 5/8" behind the rear axle and attaching it to the front. I think it looks funny but it places the weight back. We're still 3/4" COM at that wheelbase.

    Weight Behind Rear Axle OK?

Ziggy, here are my district old timer (winning) cars from 2015-17. My kids love the look of cutting the sides off, but it's an aerodynamic disadvantage. The design pushes air into the wheels and creates more surface area. Cutting the center out and covering the body ($2 Short, left side) is a...

First year Tiger and dad has the derby bug

If you look at npwdrl pictures on facebook or their website all the fat wheel cars are around 5". There is some variation but not much. And our COM aren't at 3/4" either. There are threads about tape used to hold in the tungsten cubes that allow you to move weight easily or reuse those...

First year Tiger and dad has the derby bug

I wouldn't mind finishing 3rd with a car that looks that good. That one should be proudly displayed for a long time. Fine tune your wheel and axle prep at http://npwdrl.com/ Did anyone say move your front wheels back a bit? 4.75" to 5" zone.

Beware of the evil one......... ME

Those Northern Star rules are fabulous. Not only do they cover everything they give tips to the newcomers. The thing that bothers me about inspection in our races is the inspector never knows what they're doing. At our pack level, the only thing that is checked is the car's weight. At the...

    Derby Evolution - Sold?

Those look cool but if you only want the weight pockets cut then $25 seems a little high. BUT there are some really cool things in their catalog.

    Congrats and good luck!

I think anything Joel does to make the hobby bigger helps DD4H, and people in Joel's state takes pinewood derby seriously. My brothers pack in Utah had close to 20 cars last year. In Georgia my pack is so small we haven't had a race in two years, but we've won district untested two years in a row.

    Derby Evolution - Sold?

Maglev said he ran one in nationals so I ordered one as a template to make my stuff better and possibly use. Tolerances mean a lot in racing, that's how Jeff Gordon's team beat up on everyone in the late 90s. I can see how a laser could be bad on basswood, but it's pre axel drill. Most of the...

    Derby Evolution - Sold?

I got an email refunding my order from Derby Evolution. I guess the website was sold. My questions are Were their Air Guides what everyone used on Street Stock builds? and Is there someone else that sells laser cut basswood bodies? My skills and quest for perfection making my own bodies have...
