Thanks for the Warm Welcome guys! I started working on my DFW and didn't want to finish till I got some things figured out!

Setup = RR, DFW = 3.5 degrees Positive Camber
setup for districts = pretty much nothing noticeable done to the tires.
Graphite car

Inside Edge:
Ok, I was working on the DFW inside edge with 1200 and finished up 12000 (don't laugh) I had it! And finished up with Novus 1

questions:
1. keep the edge rounded?
2. flatten it slightly to match the rail at the 3.5 degrees or what ever it is? ahhhh Rail guide technology!
3. Sharpen the edge?
3. wax and burnish it?

inside hub:
Questions
1. looks like the inside edge of the hub is slightly sharp, round off?
2. or make a small flattened area for it to ride up against the car?
3. wax and burnish?

Tread Area:
1. Wax? or wax an burnish or leave alone?
2. Sand the Tread completely smooth?

Thanks

I would like to know how to prep the rim of the wheel on the DFW and the cone of the hub when using oil. I have the same questions although I use oil. I know I need to polish yet what is the best process? Should I polish on the tread mill?

perhaps someone who cuts wheels can comment better but looking at John's wheels and having seen a few other wheels from other places, John's wheels with the rail glide cut are the most modded ive seen....some others just have them flat or slightly tapered inward....ive not seen any that kept the rounded edge like the wheels straight out of the box.

As far as prep, I just make sure they are smooth using a high grit sandpaper like you did, and then I use the same polish on it as I use in the bores (red rocket in my case).

The amount of taper on the inner hub seems to vary to me from person to person, depending on where you get them or who cut them. Ive seen some hubs that are really tapered vs some that are just lightly rounded. Honestly, im not sure how much is too much or at what point does tapering no longer gain you any speed. Id wager though you don't need a whole lot....

Again, I polish my hubs with the same polish as my bores.

As far as the tread goes, I believe the unanimous opinion here would be to give it a light sanding just to keep it clean and remove any junk on the surface but that is all....no polish or wax or sanding to a bright shine is needed....and it does make some sense in that since the wheels are all canted they are essentially riding on edge (or just a very small portion of the tread surface)....as such the other 90% of the tread theoretically doesn't touch the track much....as such you do want some grabbing of the wheel to the track other wise the car might be less stable...if the wiggles were to start and the tread that contacts is really slick then it could just snowball into a wiggle then a slide side to side and then that's it for any speed you started with....

If anyone else has ideas im sure they will post as well.

I leave the outside of the tread alone and the inside edge of the DFW I just use the second step of polish. I don't think you said where you got your wheels, you may have in another thread. If they're John's wheels, he gets them as very concentric, so I leave the outside alone. Good luck! /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif
