Proposed Street Rod rule change

We are just having a discussion here. If we are open to making changes why not hear what everyone has to say. What is the reason for not wanting to add two more brands to the list. Or even better.

I propose we change the rules to say - "Any model car body that fits the dimensions and is within the rules". No lexan slot car or rc bodies. Seems real simple to me.

This was a simple thread, 1/25 and 1/25. It turned into a Street Rod wish list. Keep it 1/25 or change it to American Muscle cars 1965-1972 boxed kits of production cars, no customs, no Vettes, Daytonas (Dodge and Plymouth) Shelbys, Prototypes or Movie cars.

hmmm

Maybe some day PapaV, but I think that right now, more people voted in this poll than sent Street Rods in to race last month !!

It will not show me the numbers until I vote and since I do not race this class figure it is best not to vote... Now I know why ..

No Daytonas? That's a stupid suggestion

I change my vote then. NO CHANGES FOR ANYONE

The Daytona *is* something like 9 inches long... /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

I looked into building a Kenworth W900, but at 12 5/8" long, it seemed like it might be a little too big.

In all seriousness, though, my vote is to open up the builds to any brand model kit (not slot car or RC car bodies; but including Jimmy Flintstone resin bodies) and keeping the 1:25 scale. If you can't find a car you want to build with the brands opened up, you're just not trying.

Whatever happens I still like the idea of at least allowing the 1:24 scale. More options is always a good thing. I just wish I could find a revell or amc subaru model.

ah man...my next car I wanted to make was the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard! I loved that car!

Well that and my mustang!

Let's just do baby steps. Add 1/24 and call it good for a while. Personally I like searching for aero models, concept and road race or drag cars. I've got quite a list of cars I would like to build, each with its own attributes.

Thus the "wish" to open up the builds to kits other than the limit of AMT/Revell only. (Then again, all the Subie models I know of are 1:24)

I prefer the baby steps of opening up to other brands of 1:25...

Yeah, I looked at that one, too. Too long.

Ebay. I just found 1:25 Subaru and the Supra from Fast and Furious. One was revell the other amt.

I think we keep it at the baby step and add 1/24 only. To be honest no one is going to want to build a Tamiya, most of them have molded door openings and multiple piece bodies, they're going to be heavy and they cost about twice as much. I've looked at models for years and the ones I'm interested in the most are open box so I can see what's involved.

Time to give it a rest for me. I am not posting to this thread any more and going back to working on my new SR

If it means a skyline/gtr....maybe a tamiya.

The subie is not that bad, the shelby daytona i wanted was starting at a $1000.

I try to not remember Shelby's mopar era.

1965 Shelby Daytona.....maybe one day a nice replica in the garage.

Just want to verify where we are at rule wise. Last I saw here, John has said that 1:24 scale will be acceptable for this summer's Championship race, but not the race at the end of this month. Is that still 'the deal' ?

Since we've reopened this topic, I'll bring my can o' worms back out, too.

Can we open up the model manufacturers to include at least MPC and Monogram (both are sister companies to either AMT or Revell, and share molds)?

Ertl and Polar Lights are also sisters to AMT. The Japanese companies, Aoshima, Tamiya, etc., make some really nice, albeit a little pricey, models too. We could include a req't to show which kit the model came from.

(I plan to have at least one SR at the May race, possibly a second, and maybe even a SS Novice/BASX car too./images/boards/smilies/smile.gif)
