I don't know (never placed them against a level/straight edge), but I have seen them in Depot. I got some which was considered scrap from a local granite counter top shop.

Was just gonna say if you go to your local granite shop you can probably get a piece they will consider as scrap. They throw out lots of extra pieces there.

Or see if Bulldog has any scraps laying around... have you seen the work he does with the granite counter tops?

I thought the substrate he used was epoxy that had a marble appearance?

I have both. I can see some daylight between when I set the 5 dollar home depot tile on top of the granite surface plate. I would have to assume the cheap tile has a bow and is not as flat as the surface plate.

the pics i posted were poured, I made them. I have installed granite countertops for many years and i have a ton of scrap laying in my bone yard. Any fabrication shop will have sink cut outs and stove cut outs they would be glad to let you fetch out the trash. I also know that granite bows as it is stored vertical. When I seam a joint together I have to surface polish the seams because of the lippage of the high points. That being said a small square of stone would have very little warpage. I would buy something that is advertised flat to tight tolerances if you check your blocks to them, don't trust a scrap of granite. Why do we buy 1-2-3 blocks and not use scraps of steel?

I agree with Bulldog - I would want to know what I was getting. The one I use for drilling (and checking blocks) is Flatness Grade A (Inspection) I believe and it came with paperwork mapping the tolerances. This was one step up from the regular Grizzly product, but not much more money.

I bought mine at the local Woodcraft store,

You can catch them on sale for $27 or so pretty regularly.

I took my SB to Home Depot today to check out the granite tiles. The first 2 black tiles I tried were not flat. On the third one the bullet sucked down perfectly. I tried it all over the tile and got the same results. I brought it home for $5.

Thanks Jay, thought it was worth a try. Might save someone a few bucks. I think a few people thought I was nuts though. Humm, they might be right.
